About John Angus

John Angus “The Earth is Art, The Photographer is only a Witness ” ― Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Earth from Above John Angus, multi-award winning photographer, is a long term Dearborn resident and past member of The Artists’ Society of Dearborn. He has been a world traveler all his life until coming to Dearborn and finding his heart would not allow him to leave. It was not only the green landscape and historical landmarks that caught his eye, but the discovery of his lovely wife. The woman he would give up his endless wanderings for and turn his curiosity of the world into photos that capture his lust for life. Photography is his artistic outlet. He is inspired by the simple beauty in ordinary and mundane things. His images invite you to see recognizable things in a whole new way. He is always looking for a different view, using post-processing on the every-day items that are taken for granted. You cannot help but experience them like they were brand new, because he has found a new way to see them. In the Artists’ Society Fall Show 2013, he became the first photographer to win Best in Show since the Society was founded in 1949. He is the past Vice President and Pansy Taylor Award holder, given in outstanding service to the club. John is mainly self-taught, which is astonishing to keep in mind looking at his work. For those who know, it gives great insight as to his artistic eye. It is natural for him, though he relies on his wife to be the main judge of his work. It was she who got John to take up photography again in 2002, after he had given it up years earlier with the tragic loss of all his photos. Since then he has never looked back. It may be echoes of his world traveling days, part of his endless curiosity to see something new while fondly remembering where he has been. This elegant philosophy emanates from John’s photographs and has you dreaming along with the scene. He is always looking for new inspiration, the next idea. He often finds both in the comradery of other artists and photographers. It is his goal to learn something new every day. In September 2015 he was part of an exhibit, Different Perspectives, at The Plymouth Community Arts Council. Joining him were fellow photographers Sylvia Ford and Amy Lockard. I cannot wait to see what images he will tease my imagination with next. Written by fellow artist: Michelle Saad Since June 2016 my photography has been put on hold due to losing my right leg and having endless complications. At this time, December 2017, I am close to being able to walk again and cannot wait to get out and about with my camera. “Photography is a love affair with life.” Burk Uzzle
